Bow Down and Worship! The Lord Turns Our Darkness into Light
Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the LORD our Maker; for He is our God and we are the people of His pasture, the flock under His care. Psalm 95:6-7
We have always known trouble in this world, and news media reports more bad news than good on a daily basis. These days, it seems as though the stories of natural disasters, horrific crimes and declining morality are at an all-time high. What is the Church to do? Who is ruling the nations?
Do not be discouraged! God is on His throne and His government is the government that is sure and final. We are the people who are governed by His righteous courts and we have the favor of His Kingdom upon us.
There will always be trouble and unrest in this world, but we must do as Psalm 95 instructs: "Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker." This is where we find rest, peace and assurance. This is where we come into agreement with His governmental rule and reign. This is where we establish His throne on Earth as it is in Heaven.
Psalm 95 goes on to give us a warning not to be like those in past generations who hardened their hearts. We do not want to be a generation of people whose hearts have gone astray, but instead be a generation who walks in the Light in the midst of great darkness, and worships our faithful King.
Light always dispels darkness and we are the portals that allow light into dark places. As we bow down in worship and submit to Jesus as King, we allow His light to be manifest into darkness and into situations that need breakthrough.
The Lord Turns My Darkness into Light
You, LORD, are my lamp; the LORD turns my darkness into light. With Your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall. 2 Samuel 22:29-30
If you have ever worked on any sort of machine with small parts, then you know that light is needed to see what the problem is or to change a part. The same is true in so many life situations. It is hard to discern a problem or gain understanding when all you can see is darkness. Light allows you to see the problem and how it can be made right again.
I have often found myself called into situations with a team to discern a problem or seek the Lord for direction. I have found that the best way for us to discern is to place ourselves in a posture of worship and submission to Jesus. We begin by praying in the Spirit, worshiping, and declaring Jesus as Lord. We bow before Him and listen for His wisdom.
This posture is like taking out a spotlight and shining it onto a problem. We allow His light and wisdom to lead us in the right direction, with understanding as to what to do. We must be people of the light. We have to be people who walk in the light or we will not know what to do or where to go.
In every situation that we need wisdom or direction, the Lord becomes the lamp that turns our darkness into light and allows us to once again advance and overcome every obstacle that stands before us.
His Light Came
Recently our son-in-law was in a motorcycle accident that left him needing surgery. The hospitals, labs, ambulance services and pharmacies did not delay in sending our kids thousands of dollars' worth of bills.
Needless to say, they were overwhelmed – both by the loss of work and the medical expenses in the midst of his injuries (their medical insurance has very high deductible levels).
I began to worship, pray for them and listen for the Lord's direction. Soon I knew that His light was coming into the situation.
By the next morning we were contacted by some of our son-in-laws' co-workers who had decided to set up an online fund in his name to help cover the medical expenses. I knew that these people had received divine inspiration from the Lord, even though they do not know Him. We can bring light and direction into situations through our prayers and worship, even where people who are not walking with Him are involved. Within a short time, they had raised $3,000.00 toward the medical expenses, and we are trusting for all expenses to be covered because God assured us that He would do this.
To walk with God is to have an Advocate, Counselor, Judge (who always rules in your favor), Financial Advisor, Physician, Friend and Father with you 24 hours a day. He understands that we are merely mortal and are in great need of wisdom and help. He loves to be invited into our lives and circumstances so that His love can be displayed and experienced on a daily basis.
God Can Recalculate Your Route
I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them. Isaiah 42:16
I have always been horrible with maps and directions. When technology came out with GPS systems and smart phones with GPS capability, it was a happy day for me and others like me. Prayer and worship is like turning on our spiritual navigation system each day. By doing this and reading His Word, we are given directions and wisdom for each day. Bowing before Him can be a physical action, but it is also a posture of our hearts.
As we remain in a place of worship, honor, listening and submission throughout each day we take a posture of bowing down. The Holy Spirit is then always able to quickly tell us which way to go or how to handle a particular situation. Sometimes it takes me a while to align my actions with His whisper but once I do, I begin seeing light come in almost instantly.
The other night I was driving through Oakland, California on a very confusing part of the freeway with many interchanges and merging highways. It was late and I was tired. I ended up being in the wrong lane and taking an exit which led me onto the Bay Bridge heading straight into San Francisco.
Although I had my iPhone GPS, I was instantly in a panic because I had missed the way I needed to go and was now stuck in a direction that was going to take me through the city (which is long and frustrating). My GPS recalculated my route and I was able to fairly quickly get through the confusing areas of San Francisco onto an even more familiar route than I was going before.
Know that if you end up going the wrong direction or making the wrong decision, God can recalculate your route. It may take you a bit longer or cause you a few extra stops or turns, but He is able to make your rough roads smooth and lead you through unfamiliar paths. And who knows, maybe God was keeping me from dangers on the other route!
If you need light in darkness, direction on an unfamiliar path, wisdom, discernment...now is the time to bow down and worship!
