This clear passage of the Bible changed my life in the '80s:
Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians 5:19-20
This is very hard to do. How can I give thanks for a migraine, for instance (but this is part of ALL THINGS)? Yet, we are told to do just this, and when we started to practice it, things began to change.
We are even told:
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the Cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:2
How can anyone, especially "God with skin on," be joyful for what was about to happen to Him on the Cross? Yet HE WAS!
Take a moment, even in your pain, to give thanks to Father God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, three in one. Because they felt joy for the Cross.
What?
Yes, for the joy set before Jesus (Yeshua), give thanks for what He knew He was about to endure. He had seen it along the road. The Romans made sure of that for the people. So Jesus knew what He was having JOY ABOUT!
Times of holidays are often filled with pain, frustration and fighting. It was that way as I grew up. We six kids never knew if our dad was going to be in a good mood or not. Mostly not, but there were some good times.
Be thankful because, at least, God had joy when HE made us, and He knew the end from the beginning.
Give thanks to the Trinity. It's the will of them for YOU to do so, and They get joy for our joy.
Just give thanks. We win. The devil loses. End of story. I made this short and potent on purpose. It's not the length that counts. It's the message.
