Light Always Triumphs
"When the Most High gave nations their inheritances, when He divided the human-race, He stationed boundaries for peoples by the number of the gods. Indeed, the portion of YHWH became His people, Yaakov the lot of his inheritance. He found him in a wilderness land, in a waste, a howling desert. He surrounded him, He paid-him-regard, He guarded him like the pupil of his eye. Like an eagle protecting its nest, over its young birds hovering, he spread out his wings, he took him, bearing him on his pinions" (Deuteronomy 32:8-11, The Five Books of Moses, tr. Everett Fox).
When you look at Israel's history and journey, particularly in light of her times of trouble, opposition, and threatened extinction, you see a clear definitive testimony that God exists, is present, and is sustaining His people. In the very hour of their most difficult experiences, God is always there. He may be hidden in the shadows, but He is orchestrating a grand deliverance. As biblical scholar and theologian Samuel Terrien writes in his book, The Elusive God, "Darkness presents to us the challenge of divine hiddenness and the promise of divine presence. The fact that God appears to be hidden at times also means that there are times when He is very present with us. The darkness extends to us a promise that the presence is not far away and will return."
Light always overwhelms darkness. The properties of light are radiant, energetic, swiftly moving, and full of life. Christ, who is our life, is Light residing in this world in earthen vessels that darkness cannot overwhelm. For Israel, the memory of the glory was carried as the certain hope of its return. That memory and that hope forged their faith in such a way that seeming absence was the very promise of God's surging presence. Darkness and trouble were simply the mask in which His returning glory temporarily clothed itself. Darkness is fragile; Light always triumphs. This is the true history of every champion's journey. It's the testimony of the Church from its inception until today.
The End is Better than the Beginning!
The writer of Ecclesiastes said, "The end of a thing is better than its beginning" (Ecclesiastes 7:8). Darkness is not the time to despair. It is not a sign of things getting worse, or that the Church and the acts of God are growing weaker and weaker as we draw closer to the end of the age. The most powerful force in the world is the praying Church on her knees. Opposition is opportunity for great breakthrough. Revival is trouble that is pregnant with hope! This is the time for the Church to arise and advance the Kingdom. Our salvation is in The Savior, Jesus Christ. For America, the way of return is the way we began – in Awakening, revival, and reformation of the hearts and values of America back to her first love.
The saints of Jesus Christ have a particular and peculiar participation in the inheritance God has ordained of every nation, tribe, language, and tongue. As Dietrich Bonhoeffer writes in The Cost of Discipleship, disciples "are the highest good, the supreme value which the earth possesses, for without them it cannot live. They are the salt that sustains the earth, for their sake the world exists, yes, for the sake of these, the poor, ignoble and weak, whom the world rejects. In casting out the disciples the earth is destroying its very life. And yet, wonder of wonders, it is for the sake of the outcasts that the earth is allowed to continue."
America's unique spiritual inheritance is rooted in her founding upon the faith and obedience of Believers influenced by the Holy Spirit and educated and sustained by the Bible who came to these shores beginning some four centuries ago and those who continue to frame their lives according to God's righteousness and values of the Bible in the present day. More than ever, America is a land made up of every tribe, nation, language and people. And more than ever before, this is the hour for the Church in America to rise and shine. We hold the key to our national identity.
Time of Commissioning
In a shofar blast from the portals of Heaven, God is calling Christians in this nation home to their families, their local church congregations, their cities, and their nation as missionaries of the good news of the Gospel with miracles, signs, and wonders. We are part of His plan and promise of return. As Joshua gave command upon entrance into the Promised Land, "When the walls fall, every man straight up into the city" (Joshua 6). When America's inner cities are in spiritual awakening, healing will come to our land. The orphan spirit will be exorcised and looming chaos will resolve into the grace of revival as Heaven touches earth. We are in a season of turnaround.
Our mission is clear: to release disciples as Jesus did. It is to wash people's feet, serve them, and bring them to the Father. As every Believer purposes to take their place on the wall like those who rebuilt alongside Ezra and Nehemiah, our shining city on a hill will be restored. The nations are waiting for the apostolic church to arise. This is the Church's finest hour. This is America's finest hour.
In the time of My favor I will answer you, and in the day of salvation I will help you; I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people, to restore the land and to reassign its desolate inheritances, to say to the captives, 'Come out,' and to those in darkness, 'Be free!' Isaiah 49:8-9
