Steve ShultzFrom the desk of Steve Shultz:

We need the miraculous in our day and it's going to keep getting more apparent of how we need the supernatural working of His power amongst us. This is a great word on this by Tiffany Ann Lewis... let's be in expectation.

The things which are impossible with men are possible with God. Luke 18:27

My husband and I are eagerly anticipating our first grandchild next month. As I eagerly await the arrival of our granddaughter, the Lord challenged me with a word He had given me years ago regarding an expectation of the miraculous.

My heart is challenged. I wonder if we (the Body of Christ) are walking with an earnest expectation of the miraculous. Are we truly expecting to see the goodness of God manifested (birthed) on earth, or are we just hoping that it will be? Hope in God is good, but the Lord wants to turn our hope into a living, breathing expectation. Beloved, God is calling us to supernatural living and it begins with an expectation of the miraculous.

If I were to be honest with you, I would say that I'm not always walking pregnant, so to speak, with this kind of expectation. More than once I have minimized the Words of Jesus when He said, "He who believes in Me the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father" (John 14:12).

The enemy of our soul is always trying to discourage us and cause us to lose sight of who we are in Christ and all that comes along with our birthright. We are governed by the natural (what the news says, what the doctor says, etc.), yet we are children of a supernatural God who asked us to pray that things would be on earth just as they are in Heaven.

Mary was pregnant with the expectation of God's Kingdom being manifested on earth. Her hope in God brought her to this level of expectation, "Let it be to me according to Your word" (Luke 1:38). She took God at His word and the Holy Spirit overshadowed her. Something supernatural happens when we allow God to overshadow us.

Jot and Tittle

Her hope was in God. She was expecting Him to be faithful to His word, and the Word, literally, came forth from her. Enter into humanity the jot and the tittle. Jesus revealed the importance of these Biblical marks in Matthew 5:18 when He said, "For assuredly, I say to you, till Heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all if fulfilled." The Word of God reveals much through the details of these Sacred Writings. These Words of life raise me up. The Lord left us these Words to give us hope, fill us with faith, and to cast out fear with the revelation of His great and perfect love.

The jot (translated as iota in NT Greek) refers to the tenth and smallest letter of the Hebrew alphabet, the letter yud. Of the number ten – the tenth is holy – set apart unto the Lord. The yud is the smallest of all the Hebrew letters and is a picture of a hand or arm. The hand of God is symbolic of His power. By the miraculous power of His outstretched arm He brought the children of Israel out of bondage unto Himself. "So the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand and with an outstretched arm, with great terror and with signs and wonders" (Deuteronomy 26:8).

It is also a stunning shadow of Christ, as the yud is the only letter of the Hebrew alphabet that is suspended in midair. With His hands pierced by nails He was suspended on a Cross between Heaven and earth to take away the sin of the world.

Selah...

The tittle holds some tremendous revelation too. Now, the tittle isn't a letter like the jot is, a tittle is the smallest pen stoke of a Hebrew letter yet it has much to say. In Greek, the word for tittle is "Keraia" (Strong's #2762). It is an extremity, apex or point and it speaks of the little lines on the Hebrew letters found in the Torah scroll. It is a scribal art form that is similar to the serif fonts found on our computers today.

Now, why would Jesus draw special attention to this art form? Looking at the meaning of the Greek word we might see why. It means "little horn". Throughout the Bible, horns are a symbol of strength as animals defend and protect themselves and their children with their horns. This strength is attributed to God with phrases like mighty and valiant helper, the author of deliverance, and yes, the Messiah. The Lord will defend and protect His children.

The Greek word keria comes from the word keras (Strong's #2768). We see this word, keras, in Luke 1:69 referring to the salvation, which is soon to appear through Mary's Son – the Messiah. "Blessed is the Lord God of Israel, for He has visited and redeemed His people, and has raised up a horn [keras] of salvation for us in the house of His servant David" (Luke 1:68-69).

It's interesting to note that keras is also used to describe the horns on the altar. There is an ancient custom of claiming sanctuary by grabbing the horns of the altar to escape punishment, persecution, or execution. We see this in the Bible in 1 Kings 1:50-53, and again at 2:28 as Joab fled "to the tabernacle of the LORD, and took hold of the horns of the altar."

Pregnant with God's Word

Beloved, in God's Word there is sanctuary and strength that we can grab a hold of – not just His Word, but even the letters that comprise them. When our soul is cast down, we can find strength and sanctuary in His Words. We can fight the discouragement by bringing our thoughts of despair into captivity and line them up with the Word of God in eager expectation. This is the eternal, everlasting, immutable Word of God, beloved. Even the smallest letter and the smallest stroke has value and it will not return to Him void but it will accomplish what He sent them out to do.

Mary was pregnant with God's Word, "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth" (John 1:14). She was expecting and she delivered.

You too can take God at His Word. Every promise, every jot, every tittle, every utterance from God is yours. Though it tarries don't give up. Be expecting beloved, be ye expecting. Amen and Amen.
