A Milk and Honey God!

Joey LeTourneau...He will bring us into this land and give it to us, "a land which flows with milk and honey." Numbers 14:8

The world is longing for a fresh revelation of the Father's true nature. But, first, we must come to know His nature as a "Milk and Honey" God. God not only brought His people into the land, He gave it to them! The land not only flowed with milk (sustenance), it flowed with honey (dessert, sweetness)! Not only did the Lord redeem us from sin, He made us sons and daughters! We must know Who our Father is. He's not a "just enough" God, He is a "Milk AND Honey" God! "Taste and see that the Lord is good" (Psalm 34:8).

Honey

Honey is abundance, it's dessert! Who doesn't like dessert? The word "abundantly" in the Greek is defined by Strong's #4053 in the New Spirit Filled Life Bible as "perissos," which means: "Superabundance, excessive, overflowing, surplus, over and above, more than enough, profuse, extraordinary, above the ordinary, more than sufficient." That's what Jesus came to bring, and that's how I want to live and love toward everyone all around me – abundantly! That's how God lives toward us! We don't have to possess honey or abundance, it is a mindset of liberality we live from toward the world out of knowing our Father's nature toward us all. Not just milk – but honey! We must live it and give it!

...I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. John 10:10

Honey On the Streets

When we first moved to Ethiopia, God brought a young man to us named Alex, 23 years old at the time, who had lived on the streets since he was seven. Alex moved in with us, and soon after the Lord challenged us, prompting us to give Alex all the money we had – both in our account and in our hands. We had $250 to our name, and that for a family who had just moved to a foreign country. It seemed like a lot of money to give Alex; much less would have met his needs. But God was doing something bigger – He was teaching us how far a small amount can multiply when given abundantly. The Father didn't want his child, Alex, only to have milk. He's a good Father and wanted to show Alex the "honey" of His nature.

Alex took the $250 and prayed over every last cent while giving it away in the same measure he'd received it: freely. He broke it up into small bills and spread it with love across the streets of the city, abundantly caring for those in need. Alex even bought groceries for our house that we all might share. The money – and even more, the grace – began to multiply in many directions.

That small seed, when sown freely and abundantly with the Father, blessed Alex, provided for us through him, and began a fruitful harvest field all across the streets with many families and their kids. Alex didn't grow up with a family, but through this seed He became a father to many on the streets. Milk "survives" us, but honey multiplies us!

Boaz and Ruth

Ruth came to Boaz's field to glean from the edges and corners. She was very poor and "gleaning" was within her rights under the law at the time. She came to get the "milk" or sustenance required to live. But, from the get-go, Boaz didn't see Ruth as a widow or the poor – he saw her as family. This new perspective empowered Boaz to live and give freely to Ruth, beyond the law, beyond expectation – abundantly!

Boaz began to lavish Ruth not just with the "milk" she needed, but with "honey." He showed her immense favor, above and beyond her need. He gave her protection, let her drink freely from their source, allowed her to eat at their family table, and even commanded his workers to let Ruth glean from the best parts of the harvest. Ruth was overwhelmed by such abundant favor and asked to come into the family as Boaz's wife.

Boaz stepped toward Ruth abundantly, and an even more incredible kind of spiritual abundance multiplied from their lives. Together, they had a child named Obed. Obed had Jesse, Jesse had David, and David gave life to the line of Christ. There was a multiplication through their lives that changed the world! It started because Boaz saw through the Father's perspective of family and stepped toward Ruth in measure to the Father's true nature as a Milk and Honey God.

...Freely you have received, freely give. Matthew 10:8

When Jesus fed the 5,000, I don't see a time where He and the disciples ever had enough food in their hands all at once. Instead, they lived into the Father's nature, had more than enough pass through their hands, and saw abundance lived out! The disciples didn't just eat, but 5,000 were made full. The 12 baskets leftover exceeded the five loaves and two fish they began with. What seems barely enough for a few can be lived out abundantly and become more than enough for many. The Father's nature is one of abundant multiplication, of honey! Grace becomes our currency. He is a "Milk and Honey" God, and the world is literally dying to know the true nature of their Father. May we love them not by what we have, or in regard to their need, but may we live and give to the world abundantly, according to who He is! The whole world is our family in need.

Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in Heaven give good things to those who ask Him! Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them... Matthew 7:10-12
