Testimony: God Can Use a Cat

Years ago, I was in a wonderful move of God in London. We reached out to people through the gifts of the Spirit and in faith. During that time, one of the elders in our church was an actor named Timmy. Timmy had been in a stage show for a number of months, and while there he developed a burden for the orchestra leader, Dennis. But, the man was not interested in the Gospel, although Timmy shared with him several times. Dennis was very happy – he had a good marriage, good income, and a nice home. He didn't drink or smoke. "Everything in the garden was lovely," as the saying goes. This was frustrating to Timmy, as Dennis saw no need of getting saved or giving his heart to God.

The play finally finished its run, but we prayed with Timmy for Dennis. "Lord, please reveal a need that this man and his wife cannot meet for themselves." We left it at that and Timmy did not see the man any more...until about a year later.

We were then all in a "Let Your Light Shine" march in London. There were many thousands of Christians taking part in the march – all singing and shouting praises to God. As we walked through the streets of London, Timmy suddenly looked up and a hundred yards away he saw the orchestra leader – carrying a huge banner, which said in bold letters "JESUS IS LORD." Timmy took off to find out what happened to this man; and let me tell you, it is an interesting story. The next day at church we found out what had happened!

Dennis (the orchestra leader) and his wife were living their happy-go-lucky life when their little cat was taken very sick. The veterinary said that the kitty had leukemia and that she couldn't live for long. He offered to put the cat to sleep. The couple were distraught – they loved their little cat. But Dennis suddenly remembered that Timmy had said something to them about healing, so they looked in the Yellow Pages to see what they could find about healing. They came across the London Healing Mission – which had actually nothing to do with physical healing but was a ministry to street people. They called the number in the phone book. "Do you heal cats?" they asked, when the Reverend answered the phone. "Well, I don't see why not, after all they are God's creatures," he wisely answered. I think he expected to make a little prayer over the phone.

But Dennis and his wife wrapped the cat in a blanket and drove clear across London to the mission. When they arrived, they put the cat into the arms of the Minister who answered the door. "Lord, please touch this little cat," was about all he prayed as far as I can remember. The cat suddenly leaped from his arms and was purrrfectly fine.

The couple were saved that night, and since then they have been Spirit-filled. God answered our prayer and worked through a need they eventually had! Isn't that wonderful? Friends, we need to release our faith and pray. And don't tell God how to do it.

God Cares About His Creatures

A while ago, I was at a friend's house in Atlanta. Her cat had some kittens and one of them was dragging itself around. I asked what was wrong with the kitty, and Gloria told me, "It has no hips and we are taking it to the vet to have it put down tomorrow." This compassion rose up in me and I put the little kitty on my lap and put my hands on it and started praying gently. I felt a movement under my hands, and the cat suddenly jumped down onto the floor, stretched and walked off! God does care about His creatures.

God's creatures aren't always grateful though; I raised my daughter's cat from the dead, and it wouldn't come near me after that – he would hide behind the door and make hissing noises at me.

Later, I went to PetSmart to get some cat food for the same ungrateful cat. When I parked my van at the front, a little dog ran out from under the car next to me. I had thought, "Oh, the little dog will get run over if it runs around this busy parking lot." So I grabbed the dog, tried the handle of the car door, which was open, and stuck the little dog inside – feeling pretty good. Then I went inside to get food for my daughter's cat and came out.

When I got back to my van, there was a lady by the car in which I had kindly put the dog. However, the lady wasn't happy. "What's wrong?" I asked nicely. "Someone put this dog in my car." "Oh, is this not your dog?" I asked. "No, it's not, and when I tried to get in the car it bit me (she was holding her left thumb like it might run away). "Oh, hmm..." I debated about telling her, but I came to the conclusion it wasn't a good time to have a discussion and I drove home.

Morale of the story: Don't limit God and He can use anyone including animals to get people saved.
