What? No Tax Write-Off?

Dear Elijah List reader,

Jesus, in a way "cheated" (smiling here), because HE paid HIS taxes from a fish's mouth. And not only HIS taxes, but also the taxes for others were paid from this very valuable coin.

Then we have the Apostle Paul who said he didn't need the money. He only wanted what would add to the Heavenly account to those who gave to His ministry.

But don't take my word for it. Here is what Jesus said:

Matthew 17:27

27 "But so that we may not offend them, go to the lake and throw out your line. Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for My tax and yours."

Then we have what Paul said which is quite a strange truth that he clearly received from God:

NIV
Phil 4:17-18

17 Not that I am looking for a gift, but I am looking for what may be credited to your account.

As far as any scholar of the Bible knows, there were no NON PROFIT organizations in that day ? no tax deductions were offered as a benefit, in other words. This was about doing what God wanted.

That brings me to THE ELIJAH LIST, which is also connected to BREAKING CHRISTIAN NEWS ? all part of Elijah List Publications, LLC.

In our case, we DO need the help! Would you be willing to help? According to Paul, it will be credited to your account if you do. And even Jesus Himself had people who donated to HIS ministry, or they would not have needed a treasurer.

You won't receive ANY tax benefit if you do, as the law doesn't allow that. BUT, according to Scripture, it will add credit to your account in Heaven. Isn't that strange?

During these economic times, we have cut our staff, services and other non-essential services down to the bone, but we still are having troubles keeping up with our every day expenses.
