Kathi Pelton: Don't Agree With the Enemy

by Kathi Pelton
Jul 21, 2011

Steve ShultzFrom the desk of Steve Shultz:

So many are facing great battles right now. My 85 year old dear friend and spiritual father, Wade Taylor, told me that this is the worst time of warfare he's ever seen for the Church Body. So believe me - you are NOT alone.

This word by Kathi Pelton will really help you. The enemy loves to accuse us and have us believe his lies... but "don't listen to your accuser and don't agree with him!" as Kathi explains well here.

Please remember us in your giving this year. We are a FOR-PROFIT organization, therefore, your contribution will NOT be tax-deductible. What you are doing is helping us take the prophetic word around the world. Simply go to: https://www.elijahlist.com/donations/donation.php and make a quick and easy donation today.

Then I heard a loud voice in Heaven say: "Now have come the salvation and the power and the Kingdom of our God, and the authority of His Christ. For the accuser of our brothers [and sisters], who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down." Revelation 12:10

Kathi Pelton

What a glorious day when we will no longer be accused by the enemy day and night! Though he accuses us before God, he is quick to make sure that his demons personally remind us of his ongoing accusations. One day, he will be hurled down and will no longer be able to grieve our God or wear down God's people.

Don't Listen to Your Accuser!

I have been sensing a heightened alert in my spirit to guard our ears from the accusations of our enemy. Even for those of you who are beginning to see the signs of breakthrough, do not let the enemy rob you of the joy that is before you. In my life I find that the warfare always increases when I am standing at the threshold of breakthrough. I have shared this statement in other articles but it's worth repeating, "Just as a bride is carried over the threshold to the bridal chambers, let the Bridegroom carry you over the threshold of new beginnings (into His chambers), because then you will be lifted above the warfare and taken into intimacy."

The enemy does nothing new. He uses the same tactics that have worked for thousands of years. He tries to get us to measure ourselves against the world's standards of success (which often go against God's instructions to us) and then accuses us of failure or tries to get us to second-guess what we have heard from the Lord. If that doesn't work, he's only too happy to remind us of the times we have not lived up to God's standards. The good news is that God has already told us that we would not and that He has provided grace for that!

When you have been through extended times of trial and pain, it is very easy to set our emotional default to a place of survival or of believing that somehow we have failed. That is the wonder of grace; it always bridges our humanity to God's sovereignty. In ourselves (apart from His grace) we have all fallen short of His glory; even the most successful in the eyes of the world have fallen short. We cannot be in Christ and be a failure! We are clothed in His beauty, His purity, His authority, His name and His love. It is impossible to be in Christ and be a failure.

There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. Romans 3:22-24

When the enemy accuses you, remember Romans 3:24. This verse gives you the perfect defense against his words that seemingly prove your guilt. You are justified freely by the Blood of Jesus Christ that has redeemed you! Even the enemy knows the truth, but he wants to hurt you through guilt, grief and his deceptions. God's redemption does not have an expiration date...you can access it daily. Of course we do not want to use His grace as a license to sin, but when we fall short or fall into sin, there is ongoing grace that redeems us back to a place of being white as snow once again.

Agreeing with Your Enemy?

When my husband and I were first married he would continually deal with the feelings of guilt. This was not because he was doing something wrong, it was a spirit of religion and perfection that he could never live up to. He never felt as though he could be good enough or righteous enough, which caused him tormenting guilt. It was hard for me to understand this because of how the Lord has redeemed me and forgiven me of so much (plus, I don't have a propensity toward this struggle).

One day he was taking a walk with a friend and sharing with him about his struggle with tormenting guilt. His friend looked at him and said, "Why don't you just agree with your enemy?" My husband was baffled by this advice. He then said, "Agree with him that everything that he has accused you of is true and probably even worse. But add the truth that if the grace of Jesus Christ does not redeem you then you will be doomed."

My husband began doing that the very next day. Every time the enemy would come to him with an accusation he would agree with the accusation but finish it with the defense of, "...but the Blood and grace of Jesus Christ has redeemed me." Within months my husband was free of the tormenting guilt that daily had plagued him for so many years.

And since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful. Hebrews 10:21-23

Remember God

Whether you are in times of overwhelming trials, accusations, or just the harassment of the enemy, we must remember God! I love the story of Jonah in the belly of the whale. Any person would assume that this was Jonah's end. But, in the midst of the belly of the fish Jonah remembers God and begins to pray.

...In my distress I called to the Lord, and He answered me. From deep in the realm of the dead I called for help, and You listened to my cry. You hurled me into the depths, into the very heart of the seas, and the currents swirled about me; all Your waves and breakers swept over me.

I said, "I have been banished from Your sight; yet I will look again toward Your holy temple." The engulfing waters threatened me, the deep surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head. To the roots of the mountains I sank down; the earth beneath barred me in forever. But You, Lord my God, brought my life up from the pit. When my life was ebbing away, I remembered You, Lord, and my prayer rose to You, to Your holy temple.

Those who cling to worthless idols turn away from God's love for them. But I, with shouts of grateful praise, will sacrifice to You. What I have vowed I will make good. I will say, "Salvation comes from the Lord." Jonah 2:1-9

The last verse in that chapter says that after he remembered God the fish spit him out! Some of you feel as though the huge fish called "life and circumstances" has swallowed you. Remember the Lord! This is not to say that your situation has come due to disobedience (such as in Jonah's predicament), but nevertheless, remember the Lord. I love the words that say, "But I, with shouts of grateful praise, will sacrifice to You."

Jonah didn't know that the fish was going to spit him out and that the Lord was going to save him in that moment. He offered shouts of grateful praise in the midst of facing death.

Whether you are facing accusation, extreme circumstances, guilt, sin, grief or breakthrough, it is time to make shouts of grateful praise even in the midst of these trials. "Salvation comes from the Lord!"

...Then my enemies will turn back when I call for help. By this I will know that God is for me. In God, whose word I praise...in God I trust and am not afraid. What can man do to me?

I am under vows to You, my God; I will present my thank offerings to You. For You have delivered me from death and my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before God in the light of life. Psalm 56:9-13

With shouts of grateful praise!
