Adar: The Month of Joy

Welcome to the month of Adar and the power of the feast of Purim. We are in a double portion season—double order, double favor, double portion, and ultimately double joy!

The month of Adar is the twelfth month on the religious calendar and began with Rosh Chodesh Adar (or "head of the new moon") on Monday, February 16, 2026 at sundown, and was observed through Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at sundown. Adar is known as the month of joy! A Jewish saying is "When Adar enters, joy increases." Adar joy is anticipatory joy. The next month, Nisan, brings Passover, which is fulfilled joy! Adar ransoms in the feast of Purim, while the month of Nisan redeems with the feast of Passover! The feast of Purim preserves Israel, while the feast of Passover redeems Israel!

When put together, the Hebrew letters of the word "ADAR" signify dwelling in the strength and power of the Lord in a limited world. Adar represents completion, intimacy, and habitation or dwelling with the Lord! There are two main instances in Scripture when that was released during this month! One is the feast of Purim and the sacrifice of Esther to stand and save her people. The second is the completion of the building of the temple on Adar 3 according to the book of Ezra!

Before Double Portion Is Released, There Must Be Double Order

Another prophetic alignment in the year 5786 or 2026 is that the Gregorian date 2/22 fell in this month of Adar! The date 2/22 prophetically signals a divinely appointed moment of double. Throughout Scripture, the number two represents witness, confirmation, and multiplication. On this day, the Lord revealed that His people are stepping into a double portion season, but not without divine preparation. Before double portion is released, there must first be double order, followed by double favor, which ultimately produces double portion. God is ready to multiply what He has already given, but He requires order before increase.

This prophetic word aligns precisely with the Hebrew calendar, as we stand at the tail-end of the first two weeks of Adar, with two significant Torah portions assigned that have marked this time frame: Parashat Terumah and Parashat Tetzaveh. (Photo via Wikimedia Commons)

Terumah, found in Exodus 25:1–27:19, centers on the freewill offerings brought by the people to build the Mishkan, the temple or dwelling place of God. These offerings were not given for salvation, but for habitation so that God might dwell among His people. "And let them make Me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them" (Exodus 25:8 KJV). When God's people willingly bring what He has already given them, they create space for His presence, glory, and protection.

During Parashat Tetzaveh, found in Exodus 27:20–30:10, and the Shabbat reading before Purim (Parashot Zakhor), the emphasis shifts to priestly garments, continual worship, and the golden altar. This portion is always read just before Purim and connects with Deuteronomy 25:17–19, which commands Israel to remember Amalek: "Remember what Amalek did unto thee by the way..." (Deuteronomy 25:17–19 KJV). Purim commemorates God's victory over a descendant of Amalek—Haman—and marks a time of divine preservation. What this means for us is the enemy is defeated and God's presence dwells among us! The enemy of your past will no longer possess your future!

Dedicate Your House to the Lord

In Esther chapter 5, Queen Esther approached the king and received supernatural favor. "Then said the king unto her, What wilt thou, queen Esther? And what is thy request? It shall be even given thee to the half of the kingdom" (Esther 5:3 KJV). Esther's obedience brought order, released favor, and resulted in double portion—not only for herself but for an entire nation.

Ezra 6 confirms this prophetic pattern: "And this house was finished on the third day of the month Adar" (Ezra 6:15 KJV). The completion of the second temple in Adar reveals a season of finishing, dedication, and divine dwelling.

The people brought offerings together to complete the house of God: "And the children of Israel... kept the dedication of this house of God with joy. And offered at the dedication of this house of God an hundred bullocks, two hundred rams, four hundred lambs; and for a sin offering for all Israel, twelve he goats, according to the number of the tribes of Israel" (Ezra 6:16–17 KJV). Joy and generous offerings followed completion.

Adar—the final month of the religious calendar year—prepares God's people to enter Nisan, the first month of redemption which will be on Rosh Chodesh Nisan, Wednesday, March 18, at sundown through Thursday, March 19, at sundown.

Also, remember you are the temple of the Holy Spirit, and if you are to be a house of joy, then dedicate your house to the Lord in this new season (1 Corinthians 6:19). Give yourself as an offering to serve King Jesus. Romans 12:1 (KJV) reads, "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service." We Are Being Prepared to Enter a New Beginning

Honoring God invites overflow. As Believers bring order and joyful offerings in Adar, they step into Nisan positioned for redemption and increase. Bless the Lord at the end of the year to prepare yourself for what comes in the new year. "Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine" (Proverbs 3:9–10 KJV).

God is preserving His people now so He may redeem, promote, and bless them in the coming season, which will be the first month of the religious calendar, Nisan. As we finish well in Adar, we are prepared to enter a new beginning marked by double order, double favor, double portion, and double joy!

Considering the feast of Purim is celebrated in Israel as a time of joy—when Haman the descendant of Amalek was destroyed and the nation was saved, alongside the book of Ezra and the completion of the second temple—we have two incidents in the Old Testament where JOY was experienced! Double portion after double order and alignment!

The joy of the Lord comes when things are complete and finished, much like when Jesus, just before giving up His spirit, said, "It is finished!" (John 19:30). He then entered the heavenly tabernacle, took His blood, put it on the mercy seat on the Day of Atonement, and declared that things were complete. An overflow of joy comes from completion, and we are now ending the year cycle of the religious calendar and about to start a new one! The religious year is complete. You are crossing over. Be joyful in this season!
