Curt Landry: Preparing for Purim - Aligning Ourselves with God's Heart
Mar 1, 2026
When preparing for Purim, we are aligning ourselves with the Lord. What does that mean, and how do we do this? This feast of Purim commemorates the divine rescue of the Jewish people from an attempted massacre by Haman during the Persian empire, a rescue that came about through the obedience, sacrifice, and selfless courage of Queen Esther. When preparing for Purim, we are aligning ourselves with God's heart. This means we intercede for Israel and the Jewish people, as well as understanding the spiritual warfare that surrounds all His people—Jew and Gentile in Yeshua. The spirit of Haman continues to seek the destruction of the Jewish people and nation. However, just as the man Haman did not prevail, the spirit of Haman will not prevail either. God is raising up Esthers in this hour to stand in the gap, to speak on behalf of Israel and the Jewish people "for such a time as this." How to Align with God's Heart for Purim Esther recognized the appointed moment to rise into her prophetic destiny. "Then Esther told them to reply to Mordecai: 'Go, gather all the Jews who are present in Shushan, and fast for me; neither eat nor drink for three days, night or day. My maids and I will fast likewise. And so I will go to the king, which is against the law; and if I perish, I perish!'" (Esther 4:15–16 NKJV) In the book of Esther, we see a pattern that encourages us to submit to the prophetic word: 1. Honor the Prescribed Time The feast of Purim was established as an appointed time on the Biblical calendar. "...to confirm these days of Purim at their appointed time, as Mordecai the Jew and Queen Esther had prescribed for them." (Esther 9:31 NKJV) 2. Help Those in Need Purim emphasizes helping the less fortunate and speaking up for the voiceless. "...as the days on which the Jews had rest from their enemies, as the month which was turned from sorrow to joy for them, and from mourning to a holiday; that they should make them days of feasting and joy, of sending presents to one another and gifts to the poor." (Esther 9:22 NKJV) 3. Remember Our Spiritual Heritage
"...that these days should be remembered and kept throughout every generation, every family, every province, and every city." (Esther 9:28 NKJV) (Photo via Unsplash) As we submit to God, honor the appointed time, help those in need, and remember our spiritual heritage, the message of Purim comes alive in our hearts. Esther and Mordecai rescued their people from an attempted annihilation because of their courageous obedience. They honored God's timing. They held to their heritage and true identity even when it was costly. They submitted the outcome to God's hands, sacrificing everything to participate in His divine rescue mission. God is still on a rescue mission today—not only for the Jewish people but all people grafted into His family. There is evil in this world that will bow to warring decrees made in alignment with Heaven's purpose. You, like Esther and Mordecai, are invited to partner with the King of Kings, expose evil, and speak even when others are silent. Here are key principles within these truths that you can meditate on as you are preparing for Purim. 4 Key Principles to Remember as You Are Preparing for Purim 1. Understand the Enemy Just as Haman was against the Jewish people in Esther's day, the spirit of Haman is still looking to delegitimize Israel's existence and right to the land. The Haman spirit wants to disregard those within the Body of Messiah as well, especially those who stand with Israel. We are dangerous to the dominion of darkness when we come together as one new humanity (Ephesians 2:11–16), honor our spiritual heritage, and know our true identity. The rage, conspiracy, and blood libel aimed at Israel today reflect satan's rage against God; Israel remains a constant reminder of his ultimate downfall. Demonic principalities will always seek to delegitimize and destroy Israel, but they will not prevail. As we align with Heaven, we can combat the deception with the light of truth and prophetic understanding. 2. Remember Your True Identity Esther's true identity was hidden for a time. Her original name was Hadassah, and when she was brought to the king's palace, she was renamed Esther to hide her Jewish identity. But she never forgot who she was. When Mordecai approached her with news of Haman's edict, she did not seek refuge in her covering; she was Jewish and, as Mordecai warned, if she did not use her position for such a time as this, deliverance would arise from another place, but she would perish (Esther 4:14). Esther's true identity gave her greater authority. When she exposed Haman before the king, she identified herself as one with the Jewish people. The king was horrified, as he hadn't fully understood the ramifications of Haman's plan and did not know his bride was Jewish. God's favor on Esther moved the king's heart to issue immediate judgment on Haman's wickedness. We see through Esther's story that Kingdom authority comes when we align with our true identity. We cannot be truly effective in spiritual warfare until we are secure in our true identity in Yeshua. 3. Speak Even If It Costs You
No one else was positioned to speak on behalf of the Jewish people like Esther. No one else had favor as she did. She had truly arisen for this appointed time, but the outcome of her obedience remained unknown. She had to approach the king uninvited. She had to speak for those who couldn't speak for themselves. She had to risk everything. (Photo via Flickr) God calls His people to be a voice for the voiceless. From the murder of unborn babies to the rise of antisemitism, global terrorism, and lies that project themselves as virtues, our moment calls for us to speak even if it costs us; to align with truth, moral clarity, and God-given identity; to enter conversations in obedience, trusting it is not us speaking but the Spirit of our Father speaking through us (Matthew 10:19–20). Mordecai and Esther not only received a prophetic word but also prepared themselves for its fulfillment. They participated willingly. As Purim approaches, let us prepare for the glory of God and His deliverance to be released. 4. Immerse Yourself in the Anointing and Word of Truth For purification and preparation for her role as queen, Esther immersed herself in myrrh and precious oils. As the Bride of Messiah, we need to immerse ourselves in the anointing and the words of our King. The Word of truth will illuminate the path and move us forward in this new season. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths." (Proverbs 3:5–6 NKJV) Purim's Prophetic Call to You The Lord favors you. He's calling to you as His Bride. He is calling you to remember who you are and help those in need by standing for truth and righteousness for such a time as this. Even if it costs you. Even if it feels like you're standing alone. How will you respond? Let us decree together: Deliverance will come from my words and my seed. I am free! Israel is free! The Body of Messiah is free! May all spirits of Haman be hanged on their gallows as we come into alignment with our God, our King Yeshua, and His everlasting Kingdom which will never be destroyed.
