Rosangela Atte: Don't Focus on the Giants, Focus on the Grapes!

A Word for All Those in Transition

To those who feel the final stages of labor pressing in: You've had to leave what was comfortable, familiar, and secure. You've stepped into uncharted territory—unfamiliar, uncertain, yet undeniably God-ordained. You know He's the one calling you forward, and that's why you keep stretching, keep pressing, even when the obstacles feel insurmountable.

You are not alone; God is with you. To you, beloved, He is saying, "Don't focus on the giants, focus on the grapes." The promise is still good. The fruit is still there. And He will bring you into the land.

"See, the Lord your God has given you the land. Go up and take possession of it." (Deuteronomy 1:21 NIV)

As I transition into a new season—one that feels completely new, unfamiliar, and unknown—I've been asking the Lord to give me boldness, confidence, and the grace to fully rely on Him, not on my own strength.

"The one who calls you is faithful, and He will do it." (1 Thessalonians 5:24 NIV)

When I think about what I'm leaving behind and look ahead at what's in front of me, I won't lie, there are moments when I feel intimidated. But as I keep plowing and sowing in obedience, I've been hearing the Lord whisper this to my spirit over and over again: "Don't focus on the giant, focus on the grapes."

Don't Let the Giants in Your Promised Land Define You

Of course, the first thing that came to mind was Numbers 13, when Moses sent twelve spies to scout the land of Canaan, the Promised Land. All twelve saw the same land. All twelve saw the same giants. All twelve saw the same grapes. But only two (Joshua and Caleb) came back with a faith-filled report:

"Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it." (Numbers 13:30 NKJV)

God had already spoken; the land was already promised. The outcome was already determined. But when the twelve spies stepped into Canaan, they didn't just see the promise; they also saw the problems. Yes, the land flowed with milk and honey. Yes, the grapes were so large they had to be carried by two men. The fruit was proof, evidence that the land was exactly what God said it would be. "[T]hey cut off a branch bearing a single cluster of grapes. Two of them carried it on a pole between them" (Numbers 13:23 NIV). But ten of the spies came back with fear-filled eyes. They saw giants, not goodness. They saw obstacles, not opportunity. They said, "We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes" (Numbers 13:33 NIV). (Photo via PickPik)

That's what fear does:

• It shrinks your vision.

• It distorts what's possible.

• It diminishes your faith.

• It elevates the enemy and minimizes the Word of God.

• It highlights what we were never meant to focus on.

But Joshua and Caleb were different. They had a different spirit. They didn't deny the giants; they just refused to be defined by them.

"But My servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit and has followed Me fully, I will bring into the land." (Numbers 14:24 ESV)

Run with Faith at Your Giants

They had the same spirit David had when he ran toward Goliath. They knew that God was with them. They knew the promise was sure. They knew that the same God who spoke to Moses had also promised Joshua that the land would be theirs. (Photo via GetArchive)

"What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?" (Romans 8:31 NKJV)

That's what faith does, it propels you into God's promises, while fear paralyzes you and keeps you outside of them.

"We walk by faith, not by sight." (2 Corinthians 5:7 KJV)

"God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." (2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV)

The ones who focused on the grapes entered the land. The ones who magnified the giants died in the wilderness. Fear kept them from what faith could have claimed.

Your promise is greater than your problem. His faithfulness is stronger than your fear. And if He said it, He will bring it to pass, "for He who promised is faithful" (Hebrews 10:23 NKJV).

Every time we're about to step into a higher realm or a greater calling, we're faced with opposition. Giants always stand in the land we're meant to occupy. Why? Because God wants to know, "Do you truly trust Me? Do you believe I will do what I said? Do you believe you are who I say you are? Do you believe I would entrust you with this level of influence?" Because it's never been about your ability. It's always been about the One who lives inside you.

Be Strong and Courageous—God Is with You!

Walking in God's will doesn't eliminate opposition; it actually attracts it. Obedience won't remove the giants, but it will give you power to overcome them, because when you walk in obedience, you walk in favor, and nothing can stand against the favor of God.

"No weapon formed against you shall prosper." (Isaiah 54:17 NKJV)

The grapes represent blessing. They represent abundance. They represent the faithfulness of God. They are proof that the land is blessed, just as He said. But He never said there wouldn't be resistance. In fact, the constant reminder to Joshua, "be strong and courageous," is proof that there will be. (Photo via Unsplash)

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." (Joshua 1:9 NIV)

Still, He promised, "I will be with you, just as I was with Moses" (Joshua 1:5 CSB).

Canaan represented the fulfillment of God's covenant—a place of rest, of identity, of possession. It was a physical picture of a spiritual reality. And while God promises the land, we still must possess it.

Every time I go to Him with fear in my heart, He says, "Haven't I told you? Be strong and courageous."

I say, "But, God, the giants are so much bigger than me!"

He answers, "Yes, I know. But haven't I told you, be strong and courageous?"

I respond, "I know, God... but look how small I am!"

He says, "Haven't I told you I am with you... just as I was with Moses?"

Beloved, if God says He is with you, and that you will conquer that giant, you must believe Him. The giants we face today may look different than the ones in Canaan, but their assignment is the same—to keep the children of God from stepping into their inheritance. But I've got good news: the One who conquered giants back then hasn't changed. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

So don't focus on the giants; focus on the grapes, because the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is the same God who fights for you today.

"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever." (Hebrews 13:8 NIV)

"I am the Lord, and I do not change." (Malachi 3:6 NLT)
