Curt Landry: "Discovering God's Promise of Protection"

From the Desk of Steve Shultz:

Steve Shultz Our three children are all married adults now with children of their own. But I will remember our nightly prayers and each one of them would either say, "Thank You for keeping us safe, Jesus," or, "Please keep us safe when we go on vacation," etc.

My wife and I have always prayed together every day of our marriage, and perhaps the most common ITEM OF PRAYER, along with many other petitions, is the same thing, "Thank You for keeping us safe today," or, "Please keep us safe when we go to..."

Even in America, which is relatively peaceful compared with many nations, we are all concerned about our safety. And that's why it shows up in most of our prayers.

Here's some good news. God wants to keep YOU safe even more than you want to BE safe. Read this word of the Lord through Messianic Pastor/Rabbi Curt Landry about God's wonderful promise of protection. (To Subscribe to the Elijah List subscribe here.)

Enjoy.

"Discovering God's Promise of Protection"

Curt Landry, Grove, OK

Has there ever been a time when you felt vulnerable or afraid? Do you ever feel as if safety is a distant dream? Then join us below as we discover God's promised protection and how in Him we need not fear!

Promises of the Word

God's promises are written, covering the pages of Genesis down to Revelation. Many of them we know—to a degree—yet, by examining God's Word closer, we can discover more promises than we could ever imagine!

"In Jesus we hear a resounding 'yes' to all of God's many promises. This is the reason we say 'Amen' to and through Jesus when giving glory to God." (2 Corinthians 1:20, VOICE)

"God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?" (Numbers 23:19)

Through God's Word and the mighty Blood of our Savior, each of God's assured promises becomes available to us. Yet, what are these promises? What do they mean for us?

God's Promise of Protection

Of the nine blessings of Passover (the last passover was April 8-16, 2020), several center on protection. These blessings come through obedience, an open heart, and of course, placing our feet under God's Passover table. It does not matter if we are Jew or Gentile; each of these Passover blessings hold specific and unique importance—importance which grows as we discover Jesus' role.

Passover serves as a vital moed—an appointed time—where we can meet God, honor Him, and receive the blessings and the mindsets needed to move forward. When it comes to protection, Passover's position is firm; however, this does not mean that those who have missed or misunderstood Passover's role cannot access God's promised protection. Choosing to follow God comes with its own promise of protection that we can come into agreement with throughout the year!

Prayer is one way to access this protection for ourselves, our families, our callings, pets, properties, and anyone or anything else. We can pray daily as a verbal agreement of God's sovereignty and the truth of His being our protector. We can plead the Blood of Jesus. We can utilize anointing oil. And we can also come into agreement with Scriptures that remind us that God is our protector! (Photo via Unsplash)

These Scriptures can be read, memorized, plastered around our homes, listened to, and prayed out; all of which cause the truth of God's Word to penetrate our minds and allow us to understand in our souls that God will protect us!

A few of the hundreds of Scriptures that speak of God's protection include:

• Psalm 97:10, "You who love the Lord, hate evil! He preserves the souls of His saints; He delivers them out of the hand of the wicked."

• Proverbs 1:33, "But whoever listens to me will dwell safely, and will be secure, without fear of evil."

• Deuteronomy 33:27, 29, "The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms; He will thrust out the enemy from before you, and will say, 'Destroy!'...Happy are you, O Israel! Who is like you, a people saved by the Lord, the shield of your help and the sword of your majesty! Your enemies shall submit to you, and you shall tread down their high places."

• Psalm 91:9-11, "Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, even the Most High, your dwelling place, no evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; for He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways."

• Psalm 91:14-16, "Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him, and show him My salvation."

• Isaiah 59:19, "...When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him."

• 2 Thessalonians 3:3, "But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one."

• Revelation 12:10-11, "Then I heard a loud voice saying in Heaven, 'Now salvation, and strength, and the Kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. And they overcame him by the Blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.'"

Simply by reading these eight Scriptures, it becomes evident that God wants to keep us. He loves us and desires to protect us.

Psalm 57 reminds us of what is perhaps the true key to receiving God's protection: abiding.

If we want to find refuge in the shadow of our God's wings, we have to abide in Him. We have to draw ourselves under His arm with prayer, praise, and His Word. And when we do, great things happen! His promised protection becomes ours, but through the abiding, our relationship with God grows. We come to know Him more and more every day until we find ourselves bearing a striking resemblance to our Father. (Photo via Unsplash)

"Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me!
For my soul trusts in You;
And in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge,
Until these calamities have passed by.

"I will cry out to God Most High,
To God who performs all things for me.
He shall send from Heaven and save me;
He reproaches the one who would swallow me up. Selah.
God shall send forth His mercy and His truth."
(Psalm 57:1-3)

Accepting God's Promises

God's promises require little from us, but here are two keys: the measure of faith God has given us, and personal acceptance of the promise. Faith because in order to accept something, we have to believe it exists in the first place, then believe that we can personally receive it. Acceptance because once we believe that we can receive the promise, we need to activate it!

A single promise of God holds immense power in its own right, yet the power that comes when we accept one on top of another, on top of another...that changes our nature—for the better—shaping us into His image, and preparing us for Kingdom purpose!

It is time to activate and believe in God's promises; to accept them and give them a place to reside daily. We have to open our hearts, to desire God's promises, if they are to flourish.

Yes, God will never leave or forsake us, even if we forsake Him...but do we honestly expect Him to move in power if we say "no"? By opening our hearts, changing our habits and patterns to create an atmosphere for Him, and seeking Him and His Kingdom first, we can say "yes"!

When we seek God, He will come. He will answer, and all of His promises will be ready to rest and flow through us!
