Darren Canning: "An Invitation to Faith - Jesus Says, 'Come'"

Steve ShultzFrom the desk of Steve Shultz:

As we are celebrating the resurrection of Christ right now, this is an excellent read by Darren Canning about our invitation to faith.

Can you imagine yourself in this scenario as Peter stepping out in faith to Jesus:

When we step out in faith it is important that we don't over-think what we are about to do. We must just step, trusting that our foot will meet the water because the invitation came from Jesus to do it. Peter stepped out because Jesus said, "Come." When he was on the water he started considering his circumstances, and that is when he began to sink. Jesus didn't let him. He grabbed him and got him back into the boat. ...The grace of God is that He meets us in the place of the storm. He doesn't let us sink.

I encourage you to step out in faith, toward our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We're all in this faith walk together...and He WON'T let us sink.

Be blessed on this Resurrection Day. (To Subscribe to the Elijah List subscribe here.)

The Christian walk is a walk of faith. That is a phrase that has been repeated so much that it might be hard to find meaning from it. Faith is a mystery. Faith is living. Faith is the dance between God and His children. He speaks and they listen. He speaks and they believe. He says, "Step out onto the water," and they do it because they no longer see it as water but as the strongest surface in the earth.

He Isn't Calling Us to a Place to Fail

God's words, when He speaks them to our hearts, have a way of making us believe the impossible for our lives. Luke 1:37 tells us that nothing is impossible for God. Whatever He calls us to do He will see us through. What He reveals, He heals. If God says it then it will happen.

In order for what He says to become reality we have to step out. Stepping out can be difficult because the way seems to be marked by obstacles. There are lies that have been spoken over us all of our days. If we are to achieve, we have to go to war against mindsets like doubt and fear. (Photo via Wikimedia Commons)

When God speaks we have to choose to step into what He says. This can be hard because we have no grid for the things He wants us to enter into. In the moment that we step out we may have the support of those around us or we may not, but stepping out in what God says is what must happen to bring us to the new place that He has in store for our lives. Abraham went into a land that was not his own. Moses had to go back toward Egypt. Joshua had to cross the Jordan. David had to face Goliath.

The things that He calls us to may be foreboding, overwhelming, or terrifying but He isn't calling us to that place to fail. He is calling us to the place of our mountains so that faith will rise up and we will achieve success. God wants to bless your life. He wants to be your strength so that you will succeed in the moment you step out.

Can't You Talk Louder, God?

What Was He Thinking?

Peter stepped out onto the water. It must have been a strange moment in his life. It wasn't like he was stepping out of the water during a calm day. He had faith and was inspired to believe he could do what Jesus was doing, but when he got out on the water it was different. When he saw the storm he was no longer confident. His faith wavered and he began to sink.

I have often wondered about the internal processes of Peter. What was he thinking in that moment to inspire him to step out? I suspect that Peter heard the Spirit of God speak saying that this miraculous step was a possibility for his life. I think there is a key in this passage that we need to grasp.

God Meets Our Feet Like Hard Surfaces

The grace of God is that He meets us in the place of the storm. He doesn't let us sink. We have a promise in Isaiah 43:2 which says, "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze."

This principle of not over-thinking applies to every faith step that I take. I have prophesied over thousands of people. In the moment that I step out and begin to speak I often don't get any word whatsoever for the person in front of me. I just trust that when I begin to speak that God is going to give me something to say and He usually does. This can be a challenge because sometimes the words that are forming in my mind don't seem to add up. The person in front of me may look like David as a boy and I am telling him that he will be a man who will become king, but I must speak by faith. (Photo via Unsplash)

When I step out in faith and do the world travels that I do preaching the Gospel, I do so because of dreams and visions that I have had. I am about to do a 30-day, around-the-world journey that will cost me thousands of dollars. I don't know where that money is coming from. I don't want to over-think it. I know that God told me that He wanted me to go around the world, so I made the plan and trust that the money will come for the journey. I have been living this way so long that it seems normal. God has always met my foot like a hard surface when I step onto the places of the water.

I declare that a brand new day is coming for you. I declare a new boldness of faith is rising up inside of you. Some of you have these dreams in your hearts that God has been speaking to you. Start believing that those dreams are for this moment and begin to step out in a new way. If you are waiting for the perfect conditions to step out in faith it probably won't happen. Just believe and do not doubt. When the waves and fire come, speak to them and tell them you have the authority to do what God has called you to do.

I declare a new day of success for you, starting now. (To Subscribe to the Elijah List subscribe here.)
