Dear Friend,
I know we share a love for Israel. Like other Bible-believing Christians, we recognize that the Jewish people hold a special place in the heart of God — and that He is calling us to bless the nation of Israel.
"I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse;
and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you."
Genesis 12:3 NIV
May I tell you why I believe that partnering with Magen David Adom (MDA) is one of the most powerful ways for believers to express love and support for Israel?
Magen David Adom blesses Israel every day in the most direct and practical way possible — they save lives.
What is Magen David Adom?
Magen David Adom (Hebrew for "Red Star of David") is Israel's national ambulance, blood-services, and disaster-relief organization.
Every year, Magen David Adom responds to 600,000 emergency calls — that's more than one per minute — and processes and delivers more than 300,000 units of blood to Israeli hospitals for people in critical need.
MDA's highly trained team of 15,000 medical first-responders is mostly volunteer. These brave men and women work under extreme conditions and often put their own lives at risk to save the lives of others.
As a result of the wars and repeated terrorist attacks against Israel, Magen David Adom has emerged as a world leader in emergency medical services and is the most experienced mass-casualty response organization on the planet.
So when there is any sort of emergency — a terrorist attack, a natural disaster, an automobile accident, a heart attack, a child falling in a playground, or a woman unexpectedly going into labor — the 8.5 million people living in Israel depend on the dedicated men and women of Magen David Adom to be on the scene within minutes to care for the injured and save precious lives.
But in Israel, the government does not fund emergency services. Magen David Adom is supported by private donations.
So this is a great way for YOU to become personally involved with saving lives in Israel — by stepping up to help provide the ambulances, medical supplies, lifesaving equipment, blood services and training that Israel's first-responders must have to do their holy work of saving lives.
Magen David Adom is not a political organization. MDA provides emergency medical care for all of Israel's residents — Jews, Arabs, Christians, Muslims, Druze — and the MDA team includes first-responders from a variety of ethnic and religious backgrounds.
What is the Cost of Saving a Life?
If you would like to do something to bless Israel today, one easy way is to give the "gift of life" — emergency blood supplies. MDA provides 97% of the blood for the civilian population and 100% for the Israel Defense Forces.
MDA's national blood bank carefully collects, processes, and stores donations of whole blood, plasma, and platelets. One whole unit of blood (approximately a pint) can save up to three lives. The cost to process a unit of blood is approximately $100. So your donation of $100 will provide one unit of blood, which can save up to three lives. Or your donation of $35 will provide one blood unit component, which can save one life. You can make the decision to save a life in Israel right now. Or you can decide to save three lives — or more — right now.
On a personal note, I had my own firsthand experience with Magen David Adom when I became ill in March 2014 while leading a tour group in Israel. I was transported by an MDA ambulance to Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem. Thanks to the amazing team who served on that ambulance — and God's hand of protection — my own life was saved!
Shalom,
Pastor Jerry Clark, M.Div.
