"Becoming Our Father's House - Naturally, Perpetually and Abundantly Overflowing"

"Hey there! All who are thirsty, come to the water! Are you penniless? Come anyway—buy and eat! Come, buy your drinks, buy wine and milk. Buy without money—everything's free! Why do you spend your money on junk food, your hard-earned cash on cotton candy? Listen to Me, listen well: Eat only the best, fill yourself with only the finest. Pay attention, come close now, listen carefully to My life-giving, life-nourishing words. I'm making a lasting covenant commitment with you, the same that I made with David: sure, solid, enduring love. I set him up as a witness to nations, made him a prince and leader of the nations, and now I'm doing it to you..." (Isaiah 55:1-4, The Message)
If God had a house in your neighborhood, what would it look like? As you grew up, was there a house in your neighborhood where all the kids naturally gathered? Was there one of those homes or families whose lights were always on, where the door was always open and you didn't need an invitation? Was there a place, maybe even your own home, where there was always room at the table and where the fridge was always full, ready and waiting? Was there a home in your neighborhood where everyone felt like family?
God's House
When I imagine God having a house in my neighborhood that is what I see. Walking up to the front door and you can still hear the stories and testimonies being told on the porch swing. Only the screen is closed (to keep out the bugs), and all the windows are wide open with the wind blowing out through the curtains. You can hear loud, life-echoing music keeping the atmosphere ripe! So much laughter and joy is bellowing through the place that you can't even figure out where it's coming from, because it's everywhere! (Photo via Southern Living)
As you go in the front door there is a giant family room to the left, a staircase to your right, and hallway straight ahead that is lined with family photos. There it is, your photo is still right where it always is, proudly on display just where the Father likes it!
The kitchen is really the gathering place. Every time you walk in it seems like there is some new feast or holiday going on. The Father sure knows how to party! Love is being poured and passed by the glass, fruit is everywhere—literally and spiritually—and the aroma of hope stems from what's baking in the oven. I can't help but start humming the chorus, "Taste, and see, that the Lord, is good to me..." as others quickly join in right on queue.
Just then, Jesus grabs your hand and takes you back down the hallway without a word. He takes you up to a door labeled, "The Son's Room." Your eyes are taken as you walk inside and realize that it's not covered in religious paraphernalia, rather, it's full of open doors! Each one leads to yet another room. The Lord points you to yours and as you enter in your greatest dreams and facets of your personal identity and definitions of hope come alive!
If you love basketball the room is the most finely-tuned, heavenly-sized court you can imagine with enough hoops for all your friends to come over. If you love art your favorite colors and styles are fervently on display speaking your creative language right back to you. If you love books you find yourself in a library with life-giving stories that never end. There are pictures on the walls of people you love, music you enjoy ringing through the air, and memories come to life all around you in all different forms. It's not that it's all about you, but, what gives life to you gives life to Him—and to others! You can't love your neighbor as yourself unless you first allow yourself to be truly, rightly, and fully loved!
There's a desk in your room with a notebook—a "Dream Journal." You flip it open to see your greatest, wildest dreams scribbled throughout its pages. Each dream has been read by the Father; with His own notes inserted of how He might re-model each dream. We're not talking "red pen" kind of markings that make you fear or cringe, no, the Father's notes look more like He took time to dream into your dreams to make them all even bigger and better and bring even more restoration to the world through each one.
The Spirit of Family
And then you realize there's your own personal staircase from within your room. It is warm with invitation, though not overbearing. So you decide to go up and see where it leads. And that's when He grabs you, with the Father's embrace! Your room leads straight to the Master suite as if He's been waiting; and turns out that He has!
"Oh, it's so good to see you, I've been hoping you were coming by. How are you? I love you! And do you even know how proud of you I AM? There's a piece of Me that feels lost when you're not around. I can't help but see Myself in You whenever I think of you, which is often."
The Father continues, and you realize how much of the world doesn't know they have this kind of a Father! How many have felt such a spirit of family, of abundant love in every form? Do they know the Father's true nature? Is this what our lives, homes and churches reveal? Are we naturally, perpetually and abundantly overflowing Who He is? (Photo via Wikipedia)
Can they hear His stories on our lives? Do they see their picture on His wall? Have they ever been part of such life-giving laughter? Have they sat at His table or smelled the hope from His kitchen? Do they feel free to come in, to open the fridge, or to kick off their shoes and just let down? Do they know the Son's room leads to a special one of their own?
If God had a house in your life, home, neighborhood, church or nation—what would it look like? Is the world getting to taste and see how good He is? If so, then we will begin to see the Father's family restored like never before!
