A couple weeks ago, I caught up with Hannah while at AzusaNow, to find out more about what new avenues she's been ministering in, and what God has been doing in her life lately. Here's a little of that conversation.

by Aimee Herd-BCN Exclusive Interview with Hannah Ford

"I'm not doing this for anybody else but for God, first and foremost. And when He says, 'You do this for My excellence and My Glory,' then I do it. But to know that this is going to be excellence, because it's going to meet people and touch them, and not just the music, but the visual and tying all of the songs together... I'm excited."

A couple weeks ago, I caught up with Hannah while at AzusaNow, to find out more about what new avenues she's been ministering in, and what God has been doing in her life lately. Here's a little of that conversation.

BCN: What are you working on right now, Hannah?

HF: Right now, I'm a worship leader at various churches in San Diego, from a downtown church that reaches a lot of homeless people to other Spirit-filled churches, and I'm also doing work at an Alzheimer's home, which is actually an amazing ministry to see how God uses the music to just bring His presence and bring up memory that actually is good—memory of God, memory of His goodness. And I'm working on another album. (Photo: Interviewing Hannah at AzusaNow/via Facebook)

It was recorded up with the Bethel production team, but it's my own label—Jewel Coast Music, and working on a book to go along with that. So hopefully, that set together, is going to really inspire people of all ages to live for God and to take it a step further. I don't want it to just be music that people worship to—that is awesome—but I want it to actually ignite them to decide to live for God and to worship Him through every situation. This is my life choice to completely go for God 100%.

BCN: And what has been your experience while at AzusaNow? (Photo via HannahFord.com)

HF: I'm on the prayer team, and I'm excited about that. You know, it is so cool to be around so many people that love to pray and love to see God do miracles. I have such a heart for the Body of Christ.

I'm a product of the Jesus movement, basically, because my mom was saved during all of that. She saw the signs and the wonders and her sister said, "You don't need to be an atheist. Come. God is real." She gave her life to Jesus, so I've kind of grown up knowing what God did and the fruit of that with the Calvary Chapels, the Vineyards, the this, the that, and to take it back even further, the Azusa Street revival it's just—I think so much came out of Azusa that people don't even realize.

The church I minister at in downtown is called Horizon Park Chapel and that was founded for Aimee Semple-McPherson's ministry, because there wasn't enough room in the park where she was ministering. I just look at what God's doing all over the Body of Christ, and I pray that we would have unity with the races, with the denominations, that we can center on Jesus, because we have so much to offer—as iron sharpens iron. I'm excited about this, and I pray that God really does more than we can even measure. (Photo via HannahFord.com)

BCN: Leading up to coming to Azusa, as you've ministered down in San Diego, did you notice an expectancy, an anticipation among fellowships and Believers?

HF: Yeah, I think there is. It's not with all of the churches, but it's with a lot of them. I've been excited about letting other people know about it. So it's not just something in one stream, it's for the Body of Christ. I think that people are wanting a move of God, and even pastors that I've talked to that aren't [used to that sort of thing]. They have the Holy Spirit, and they want more of the Holy Spirit. They recognize... you know what? There never would have been a Jesus movement if it wasn't for the Holy Spirit, and we need more. So it's like the balance of the Word of God, the power of the Holy Spirit, the character of Jesus, and I think that that is a cry of so many people in San Diego and all over. So, I pray that it ignites. There are hungry people, very hungry people, and I just pray that it unites the Church.

BCN: As a worship leader yourself, experiencing some of the worship at Azusa, what are your thoughts? (Photo via HannahFord.com)

HF: I think it's amazing. One of the coolest things for me, because I grew up in a Mexican neighborhood—like gang neighborhood, and my name was "white girl." (laughter) Then my best friend was African American, my other [best friend] was Japanese. So I grew up with a love of all these people and cultures.

When I go in there and I see all the people on stage, you've got all the Latino and the African American and the White, and First Nations... Then you have the Messianic Jews—it touches my heart, because that's how it should be. That's what the Holy Spirit does, He unifies. To know what happened in Azusa originally [in 1906], that was a very racially-tense time.

BCN: Yes. Like now.

HF: I know. We just need that unifier, the Holy Spirit again. When we were walking by even through the aisles it's like, my Mexican brother would be, "God bless you sister," and my other sister, she's from another culture, and she's a different ethnicity, and it's like, you just feel the love. That is God-given. That's a taste of Heaven, He made us all and loves us all, and that's what He designed. For us to be family.

BCN: Hannah, when can we look forward to this new project coming out?

HF: Well, I am hoping and praying that it'll be in about six months. Maybe sooner, maybe not but, yeah. It's a very cool project, because God has had me incorporate some of my prophetic photography into the design. So, I've designed it and stuff... (Photo: One of Hannah's photos/"Where Two Or More Are Gathered"/Copyright-Hannah Ford)

BCN: That's what I've seen on your website, your photography is really beautiful.

HF: Well, thank you. It's God's artwork. I've just taken snapshots and asking them to be glorified, but I'm excited about this project, because it's God's—He's had it—it's taken longer than I've expected, but at the same time it's like, "Wow, this is so much better. This is so much more meaningful," because I'm not doing this for anybody else but for God, first and foremost. And when He says, "You do this for My excellence and My Glory," then I do it. But to know that this is going to be excellence, because it's going to meet people and touch them, and not just the music, but the visual and tying all of the songs together... I'm excited. I did release one song early from it. It's called, "Don't give up."

Originally, I was going to have just a worship album, but I felt like God said, "No. You need to add songs that are going to touch people in a different kind of way." Jesus spoke in parables. He spoke to the heart, He spoke directly, He gave sermons and I've—it's like [God said], "No. It's not just worship, it's this."

So, "Don't Give Up" was written for a suicidal friend, but it speaks to all of us, like, "No. God is with us. We're not going to give up. We're going to go forward and press on with all that He's called us to do." So it speaks to me even about everything in my life. Don't give up. This is the path, and I'm excited, because God's really using that song and so I know He's going to get it all done in His way and His time and He's going to use it all.
