Ben Peters: "Here Come the Colts – Ready to Serve the Lord"

by Ben Peters

Steve ShultzFrom the desk of Steve Shultz:

In this article, which focuses on the colt that carried Jesus on its back, you will actually have a chance to learn just a bit about how metaphors and analogies can be done from the written Word of God.

When God breathes on a Scripture passage, He often inspires a speaker or writer and especially good teachers to take the words, word pictures and symbols and apply it for today.

In this case, an excellent teacher and prophetic voice, Ben Peters, operates in both the teaching gift and prophetic gift to lift off the pages of a 2000-year-old story to cause it to become a fresh RHEMA word of prophecy from the Lord.

So on today's word I wanted you to not only enjoy it and not only receive good revelation, but wanted you to be taught how God inspires modern-day teachers and prophets to use Scripture from which God can cause prophecy to come forth!

This is not about football, but God has often used team names for a prophetic sign. In the past two years, we've heard prophetic interpretations of the Super Bowl champion teams. The Seahawks were about the rise of the seers with hawk eyes. The Patriots represented those who loved their fatherland or the Christian values of the Founding Fathers. I don't know if this is the year of the football Colts, but I do have a word from the Lord about the colts who will be released to carry the presence of Jesus into the world they live in.

I believe that the prophetic picture the Lord gave me is a very important word for the Church for the great harvest, which has begun on the earth. Here's the Scripture I read when the Lord released this revelation:

And it came to pass, when He drew near to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mountain called Olivet, that He sent two of His disciples, saying, "Go into the village opposite you, where as you enter you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat. Loose it and bring it here. And if anyone asks you, 'Why are you loosing it?' Thus you shall say to him, 'Because the Lord has need of it.'" Luke 19:29-31

In order to make application of the story, let's ask two questions:

1. What do we know about this colt?
2. What do we know about Jerusalem?

What Do We Know About This Colt?

The word colt is translated from the Greek word, "polos." It simply means a foal or a young donkey. Donkeys were burden bearers and a common and humble means of transportation, but this colt had never carried a man before. It was untrained and unexperienced. Donkeys are also known for their stubbornness, but this colt or foal was a very obedient servant to Jesus.

Matthew gives us a little more detail. "...Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey and a colt with her. Loose them and bring them to Me..." All this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: "Tell the daughter of Zion, 'Behold your King is coming to you, lowly and sitting on a donkey, a colt the foal of a donkey'" (Matthew 21:2, 4-5). The disciples actually brought the mother and the foal, or colt, but Jesus rode on the colt into the city of Jerusalem. There were two generations of donkeys that were brought to Jesus, but it was actually the younger generation that carried Him into the city, to the great delight of the people of Jerusalem, and those who had come from all over Israel for the Feast of Passover.

We also know that this colt was in bondage. He was not free to run and do what he wanted to do. He was owned by a master who kept him in bondage. We know his mother was also bound by the same master. He had been born into bondage because his mother was in bondage. However, Jesus' disciples had the authority to loose them both and bring them to Jesus for a special assignment.

What Do We Know About Jerusalem?

For Israel, Jerusalem was the Mountain of the Lord sitting on top of every other mountain of their society. It was the head of the political government as well as the religious center. It was the commerce and business capital and the education capital as well. It would also have been the high place of the arts and entertainment mountain as well as all media and communication of its time. If you wanted to impact a nation and its people, there was no better place to do so than the city of Jerusalem. If a king was to make a claim to the throne of Israel, he would certainly have to make that claim in that great and historic city.

We also know that many people in and around Jerusalem were looking for someone to free them from their bondage to Rome. They were looking for a special King or Messiah to save them and reestablish their sovereignty as a free nation.

What is God Saying Through This Story?

The voice of God is being heard throughout the world regarding the restoration of the presence and glory of God on the earth and on every mountain of society that controls the values and ways of life of its people. As the person and presence of Jesus, the Messiah, was carried into the city of Jerusalem by a humble donkey, so in our generation, the presence and power of Jesus will be carried into the mountains of our society by a younger generation that has mostly never served Jesus before, but is being set free from its bondage and finding real purpose and destiny for the first time. It won't be the great intellectual theologians that have the leading role in bringing God's glory to every mountain of society. It will be the most humble among us, as Paul declared in 1 Corinthians 1:26-29: "For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence."

The appropriate means of transportation for a king would not be a young donkey. It would be a big white stallion, perhaps, but not an untrained immature colt. But Jesus had a message to proclaim by His example.

Jesus is looking for the weakest and least likely to succeed, so He can prove how powerful He is by using them.

Important Application

Many God-fearing parents have seen their youth go into bondage to drugs, immorality and various seductive devices of the devil. Naturally, we want to see them set free, because we love them and care about their eternal soul, as well as their happiness here on the earth. God is speaking to us today.

He wants us to see how much He loves them and wants to use them for His glory. They have a powerful destiny, no matter how terrible their bondage is. God will give them a purpose and a powerful sense of fulfillment, when they have the privilege of carrying His presence by being filled with His Holy Spirit. They will declare with authority and passion: "BLESSED IS THE KING WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD" (Luke 19:38). (Photo via freeimages)

I believe if we change our focus from their happiness first to the fact that the Master has need of them, we will see quicker results. It's like Hannah, who was barren until she told God that if He gave her a son, she would give him back to God. It worked for her and I believe it will work for us as well.

The fact is that many prophets have been proclaiming that it will be the younger, non-famous, passionate and servant-hearted generation that will carry this great revival more than the older generation, of which I am a part.

Where Do Us Older Generation Folk Fit In?

The mother of the colt was also released from her circumstances that held her back. She was brought to Jesus, along with her colt. Her presence must have been a comforting, stabilizing presence for him. She walked at his side, probably neighing or braying to him to encourage him that she was still there with him.

Those of us who are who are older may not carry the weight we used to carry, but we can certainly be that prophetic voice of encouragement to the younger generation. We have been delivered from many things over our lifetime, and we can encourage the younger generation that God can do even greater miracles for and through them.

It was Jesus' Disciples that Set the Donkey's Free

Thus far, we haven't mentioned the two disciples that Jesus sent. We don't know who they were, so the focus is not on them, but on the fact that His disciples do have the authority to set the captives free with the knowledge that, "The Master has need of them." Disciples are those who have spent time in His presence, serving, following and learning His heart and His thoughts. (Photo by Lillis Boyer "Heart of Fire and Passion" via elijahshopper.com)

Right now, I do declare and decree to all who read these words:

The days are fast approaching for a powerful wave of deliverance from every kind of bondage to sweep over the earth, setting back the devil's agenda of constant perversion and seduction by centuries. Jesus' disciples, those who have known and delighted in the presence of God, will be carrying a passion to release every person they meet who has been taken captive and rendered a slave to sin.

This will especially impact the homosexual community. Those who have been set free will have amazing testimonies of God's power to deliver them and take away their past desires. Their lives will be filled with the delight that God designed for them to enjoy.

The Colts Are Coming

Yes, the Colts are coming, but we, His disciples, must loose them and bring them to Jesus. The fathers and mothers among us must prophesy encouragement to them and walk at their side as they carry all that Jesus carried, for they will be carrying Him. That includes all the gifts and fruit of the Spirit, which God gave Him without measure or limit. They will bring Jesus into the great city. They will carry Him up to the top of every mountain of society and He will rule and reign in many hearts who welcome Him as their own King and Messiah.

Let's get ready to cooperate with God. Let's find those colts and set them free to serve their King!
