Celebrate the Promise, Respond to the Threat

Dear Friends,

Tomorrow we celebrate the reunification of Jerusalem! What an amazing and miraculous moment in 1967 as soldiers celebrated at the Western Wall (right) which was again under Jewish sovereignty for the first time in millennia. What was once a city devastated by war, has been rebuilt and stands as a beautiful symbol of God's promise in His Word.

"I will bring back the captives of My people Israel; They shall build the waste cities and inhabit them. . . I will plant them in their land, and no longer shall they be pulled up from the land I have given them," Says the LORD your God." - Amos 9:14-15

Today, however, there lurks a new threat that is devastating the lives of thousands in Jerusalem - poverty. The latest statistics show that in Israel there are approximately:

	885,690 children living under the poverty line.
	735,440 people who cannot afford to buy enough food.
	50,000 holocaust survivors struggling to buy even basic necessities.
