This new experimental program is only for small ministries, missions, and churches. What is small? Under $10,000 per year. The IRS wants to know how much you expect to bring in during the first three years of operation. If under $10,000 per year, the IRS charges only $400 rather than the usual fee of $850. If under $10,000 per year, you will probably qualify for our $995 Self Service Plan. Just give us a call.

What if you have big hopes and dreams far beyond $10,000 in the first three years? Unless you are absolutely certain (only God knows the future) that you will bring in more than $10,000, you will probably qualify. If you can envision structuring your activities so that you won't require more than $10,000 to operate, this plan can work for you. And what if you actually do bring in more than $10,000? When you have big hopes and dreams, you never know what God will do. Will there be a penalty if you exceed the $10,000? No.

What about the clause where you cannot speak about public officials. It's never been enforced, but will it, and do you need it [the 501c3 status]? Tim and Darcie Holt


David's answer: Hi, Tim and Darcie, yes, you most likely need it to expand your ministry. Without being able to give tax-deductible receipts, you will most likely never receive any larger donations. You will likely remain small and unable to advance the Kingdom in a powerful way as most ministries are doing today.

Now, to your main topic. There is no clause that says your 501c3 (ministry, mission, church) cannot speak about public officials. If there really were such a clause, do you think it wouldn't be enforced? Don't you think those who would keep prayer out of schools would make sure this is enforced if it were really on the books? This seems to be a recurring concern on the part of some who perhaps have heard things through the grapevine (like the old game of gossip).

So let me be a source of information and also a solace for those who would like 501c3 status, but feel it will hamper them somehow. (What is hampering to the advancement of the Kingdom is this misinformation, which keeps some ministries on the sidelines because they can't expand their ministry with tax-deductible donations.)

First of all, we must be clear that tax-deductible dollars cannot be used for politics. Just like when you give money to a political party, it is not tax-deductible. So if you want to support candidates or legislation, you cannot do that with tax-deductible dollars. That means you cannot do that through your nonprofit. However, that doesn't mean you are hampered from speaking about public officials unless, of course, it is election time, and they are running for office. Even then, you can do that outside of your nonprofit, of course. There is plenty of geography outside your nonprofit, so it should never be a problem.

Now, use your e-mail list too! Your website and your e-mail list are great ways to reach the world with your Kingdom message. But they can also be sources of income for you. They are great ways for you to earn $300* again and again with very little effort.

You spread the word about our Christian 501c3 service by placing one of our images on your website or in your e-mail going to your e-mail list.
