F-Word Now Allowed on Broadcast TV

F-Word Now Allowed on Broadcast TV
By Britt Bennett

The Delusion:

We Americans have a misconception: That we are safe from hearing the worst of foul language when we are tuned to Broadcast TV.

The FCC has ruled otherwise: When U2 singer Bono used the F-word on live TV, thousands of complaints flooded the FCC. Their response? They ruled that this word was acceptable on broadcast TV, except in sexual situations.

The Complaint:

Quite often, people complain to me that TVGuardian, the foul language filtering device for TV, really just makes an unacceptable practice acceptable. In other words, they tell me, Christians shouldn't be watching morally bankrupt programming in the first place...and that TVGuardian only helps them do so.

But may I point out that the F-word the FCC deemed acceptable was broadcast on live TV, during prime-time, in the middle of a music award program? How could anyone have expected foul language in such a setting?

The other challenge is this: Finding a good channel to watch usually entails a person going through numerous other channels. How many of us have encountered something foul while looking for something good?

The Choice:

Once we acknowledge that it is essentially impossible to watch TV without hearing foul language, how do we respond? I only see three options:

(1)
Give up TV altogether—the news, the positive programming, the political debates, documentaries...
(2)
Watch TV and just live with it—the occasional f-word, the s-word, racial slurs, sexual innuendo, the use of Jesus' name as a cuss word...
(3)
Keep your TV and rent or purchase a TVGuardian that will automatically filter out all forms of foul language, racial slurs, sexual innuendo and uses of the names of God and Jesus in vain.

The Offer:

TVGuardian—the box you connect to your TV to filter out foul language—is now available at a new, low rental price beginning at just $9.95 a month. TVGuardian works with broadcast TV, cable, satellite, DVDs, even VCRs. The new rental price helps those who haven't been able to pay the entire cost upfront, and it also allows families to try TVGuardian before committing to it.

The Trial:

TVGuardian isn't available in stores, and there are no other similar products available. The makers of TVGuardian realize you may want to try it out before you'll know whether you like it or not. So they offer a free 40 day trial of TVGuardian.
